Star Dance

Soon to be published by the founding
member of the Dead Widower Society
A new Ghyl Tarvoke novel by John Vance, Star Dance is a science fantasy adventure story set in Emphyrio's past. Ghyl is brought back through time in order to prevent the repressive culture of his home world, Halma, from ever coming into existence. However, against every fiber of his better judgement, in order to create a new future for humanity in the galaxy, Ghyl must establish the absurd religious rituals of the god Finuka on Earth!

Ghyl is trained for his mission to Earth on a world of the Galactic Core, Tar'tron. There he learns how dance steps can control magical spells and he meets his partner in time, Bet Pliqua.

Traveling through time, Ghyl and Bet arrive on Earth at the beginning of the 20th century. Their first task on Earth is to rescue a sickly little girl, Lieserl, who is sent back to the Core. Lieserl must grow up on Tar'tron and become Bet's mother.

Ghyl and Bet then turn their attention to the problem of bringing the mysterious Buldoon Arques to Earth. The Arques are Earth's only hope for preventing global warming and catastrophic sea level rise. In order to save Earth and prevent the people of Halma from ever being enslaved, Ghyl and Bet must give up their own daughter, inserting her into the history of Earth where she must live out a brief life in poverty and disease in New York City.
